Solution Description

Spring Tools 3 Add-On for Spring Tools 4

End of life: This Spring Tools 3 Add-On for Spring Tools 4 is no longer maintained or updated. The final and last release is 3.9.22, which corresponds to the Spring Tools 4.14.1 release for Eclipse 2022-03. There will be no updates to newer Spring Tools 4 or newer Eclipse versions anymore. Please upgrade to Spring Tools 4 instead.

Attention: This add-on pack provides additional components from the previous Spring Tools 3 generation to be installed into an Eclipse with Spring Tools 4 already installed. To avoid installation issues with overlapping features, this will NOT install everything from the previous Spring Tool Suite 3 into a plain Eclipse.

The Spring Tools 3 contain the previous generation Spring tooling for Eclipse, mostly focused on working with Spring apps configured using XML and providing validation support for various additional Spring projects, like Spring AOP, Spring Webflow, Spring Integration, etc. This can be installed as an add-on into the Spring Tools 4 for Eclipse as well as into a plain Eclipse installation, if you still have projects that are not migrated to Spring Boot and/or you would like to continue to use features of the previous Spring tooling generation that aren't yet been part of the all-new Spring Tools 4.

As mentioned in the description of this marketplace entry and announced here: https://spring.io/blog/2022/06/14/goodbye-spring-ide-welcome-spring-too…, the STS3 tooling has reached its EOL and will not be updated anymore to newer versions. Trying to install the STS3 Add-On pack on the latest Eclipse and Spring Tools 4 for Eclipse distribitions will result in the above mentioned error.

If you are missing a feature in the Spring Tools 4 (probably the reason why you are trying to install the STS3 Add-On), please raise an enhancement request for the feature at https://github.com/spring-projects/sts4/issues

Using Eclipse Market place I am tryin to install Spring tools 3 Add on for Spring tools 4.3.9.14.CI and getting the below error. please help.

Unable to read repository at
sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

That migt be an issue with the certificate not being around in your local keystore. If you search on stackoverflow for the error message, there are plenty of suggestions - but they might be a bit cumbersome and tedious to get right.

As an alternative solution, you could try to install the STS3 components manually from the update site and switch to http instead of https, if the error persists.

  1. I've eclipse 2019-06 & I've installed this(Spring Tools 3) add-on & whenever I create a Spring legacy maven project it only creates only a manifest file& nothing else with it.
  2. And in eclipse 2019-06 with same add-on Spring legacy maven project just doesn't show up.

Please help me
