Solution Description

File Encoding Info is an Eclipse plugin which will try to detect the encoding of the current editing text file.

This Eclipse plugin adds the following features to Eclipse:

  • Show the encoding of the current editing text file in the trim area.
  • Use the ICU component to detect the possible encodings of the current editing text file, and alert you to change encoding if the encoding may not be set correctly.
  • Allow you to change encoding through the popup menu.

I have install this plug-in, but ,to my surprise, there is no any usefulness just like I do not install it. By the way , other users have feed back this problem , but there is still no solutions provided!

Hi
I've installed File Encoding Info in my eclispe 4.2
The system said to me that the plug-in is installed buon i can't see the info about the coding of my file

I'm using Eclipse with Pydev for develop Python code

Thanks

Very useful tool (the whole feature should be included on eclipse itself), it really helped me out with some weird bugs with encodings :)

Actually I've been using Eclipse 3.5.1... but I've been using the classic update functionality to install plugins. That way I can choose the folder where I'd like to install the plugin in.

I don't have any issue with other plugin update sites so far but all these sites are providing a site.xml. Maybe you could add that file for backward compatibility.
