ESF Cloud Connector for AWS IoT Core

The ESF Cloud Connector for AWS IoT Core is an add-on for Everyware Software Framework (ESF) and Eclipse Kura by Eurotech that connects the gateway to Amazon Web Services IoT Core and AWS IoT Greengrass. It wraps the official AWS IoT Device SDK for Java v2 and provides three Cloud Connections that integrate with ESF Cloud Publishers, Cloud Subscribers and Wires.

Cloud Connections

• AWS Cloud Endpoint: direct MQTT connection to AWS IoT Core with X.509 device certificates (TCP 443 with ALPN). Thing publishers and subscribers for telemetry, Shadow publishers and subscribers for classic and named Device Shadows (get, update, delete) with accepted, rejected, delta and documents notifications and the shadow document version.
• AWS Core Device Discovery: discovers the Greengrass core device through the AWS IoT Greengrass discovery API and connects to it as a client device, with the same Thing and Shadow publishers/subscribers.
• AWS Greengrass IPC Cloud Endpoint: connects through the Greengrass IPC socket, exposed by the Eurotech com.eurotech.ipc.credentials.provider component, to publish and subscribe local Pub/Sub messages, IoT Core MQTT messages and Device Shadows, and publishes a periodic BIRTH certificate.

Telemetry received by the Thing subscribers is converted to Wire Records: canonical KuraPayload JSON is decoded natively, any other flat JSON object is mapped metric by metric preserving the value types. The raw MQTT body can also be exposed as a metric.

What's new in 1.4.0

• Hardened MQTT transport against connection interruptions and client-id collisions: ordered teardown, stale-callback protection, single live session on the broker.
• Periodic BIRTH certificate publishing on the Greengrass IPC endpoint.
• Shadow document version forwarded in the version metric.
• Correct handling of telemetry topics containing shadow/ and of full AWS IoT reserved shadow topics.
• Flat JSON payload parsing with unquoted keys and preserved value types.
• Thing and Greengrass IPC publishers/subscribers bound to the Kura JSON marshaller.
• Dependencies updated to aws-iot-device-sdk 1.31.0 and aws-crt 0.45.4.

Installation

Drag the marketplace button into the Packages section of the ESF Web UI, or install the deployment package from the download URL. The add-on requires ESF 6.1.0 or newer; version 1.4.0 has been validated on ESF 7.6.2. Java 8 or newer is required.
