This add-on will save your edits "whether you want to or not" - which does mean that if you screw up an edit your file can get saved before you have a chance to notice. I guess the "don't save when there are errors" might cover some of that, but it's not a perfect fit.
What I would prefer is an option to "save as" to a file with a $$$ extension - that would work quietly in parallel with intentional saves, at the expense of having to ignore and gitignore the file extension - or equivalent.

If you are running Java 1.7, you can install this but it won't appear on the drop-down menu. There is a line in the log saying that something is missing, and that line does include "1.8" among the text, but that's all the clue you get.
It doesn't work on Eclipse 4.3.

Adds autosave functionality that should just be built-in (and working) to eclipse. Works exactly as expected. Decent customization options available.
