Solution Description

Jaspersoft® Studio is editing software for JasperReports®. It will help you design and run report templates; build report queries; write complex expressions; layout visual components like 50+ types of charts, maps, tables, crosstabs, and custom visualisations; and much more. It integrates JasperReports® Server to create powerful report publishing workflows. With Jaspersoft Studio you can build documents of any complexity from your data—from print-ready in PDFs to interactive masterpieces in dynamic HTML, with navigation to interactive components, like maps and charts that may be inside or outside the report. You can generate high quality OpenOffice, PowerPoint , RTF, Word, and spreadsheet documents. Or you can generate raw CSV, JSON, or XML documents. It's not difficult to build your own custom exporter to suit any data need. Using Jaspersoft Studio, you can access different types of data sources, including big data, CSV, Hibernate, Jaspersoft Domain, JavaBeans, JDBC, JSON, NoSQL, XML, or your own custom data source. Jaspersoft Studio comes in two editions: Community and Professional, the first is available as Eclipse plug-in and as standalone application, while the Professional version is available only as standalone application and includes additional features, like access to Spotfire, maps, and advanced HTML5 charts, as well as professional support.

Jaspersoft Studio The standalone version can be downloaded here: https://community.jaspersoft.com/project/jaspersoft-studio/releases The update sites archive can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/jasperstudio/files/updatesite/ If you are noticing installation issues with Jaspersoft Studio plug-in or the RCP update mechanism please give a look at the following troubleshooting article that explains how to deal with the problems caused by the Sourceforge latest changes: Solving installation and update errors related to the update site of Jaspersoft Studio

Version 6.17 does not correctly compile the .jrxml due to the error "errors were encountered when compiling report expressions class file cannot be resolved to a type". It was necessary to return to version 6.16 for the compiler to work again.

Hi can you please open a dedicated bug on the Project tracker? Link: https://community.jaspersoft.com/bug-tracker?field_bug_project_target_i…
Please attach all the details about the problem, like for example the version you are using (RCP or plugin), OS, Eclipse version, if coming from an update etc. And attach possible sample files.

Regards,
Massimo.

The problem is known and a patch is available: As it seems as i can not put a link on here, search go to community.jaspersoft.com/jaspersoft-studio/issues/13616

Applying the patch of issue #13616 (ie copy a small jar intio install/plugins) in a fresh eclipse jee v4.20 install +jasper plugin fixed the problem for us

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Jaspersoft Studio feature 6.6.0.final (com.jaspersoft.studio.feature.feature.group 6.6.0.final)
Missing requirement: Jaspersoft Studio feature 6.6.0.final (com.jaspersoft.studio.feature.feature.group 6.6.0.final) requires 'org.eclipse.equinox.p2.iu; org.apache.commons.pool 1.6.0' but it could not be found

Installation of Jasper Studio eclipse plugin wnet well in eclipse 4.8.0 jee

Now when starting eclipse on a worspace, the log is filled with the fololowing exception:

After more investigation, this occurs when eclipse is running with the IBM JDK (the latest Java 8 version: v8.0.5.17, v8.0.5.16, v8.0.5.10 etc...)

When eclipse run with the Oracle JDK (v1.8.0.171), it works

It seems that the "castor" frameqork internally used by the pluging tries to uses internal seun classes that are no more in the JDK..

Q: is there a workaround that make the plugin work on the IBM JDK?

while downloading/installing this from "Install New Software...", I first had problem downloading it via sourcefource, "handshake_failure"; then I tried this link and while downloading is fine, error occured during installation: "An error occurred while collecting items to be installed".

Then I tried downloading via "Eclipse Marketplace..." and it installed like a charm. For those of you who still face problem :)

Again: Is there any date to release an install of plug-in for Eclipse Oxygen? I start thinking about alternate reporting librarys - don't like to be left in the past...

In reply to by Udo Hegel

Hi,
we are working on the next release, it will be out before the end of this year.
The trunk is already working correctly for the Oxygen release. Un-official integration builds can be created following the instructions on the Community Wiki.

Regards,
Massimo.

P.S: please remember that besides the plug-in version there is also a standalone RCP one.

I have face an error while install the Jasper report tool.

An error occurred while collecting items to be installed

Please share the solution

Installation of the jasper studio eclipse plugin v6.4.0 fails with a fresh install of eclipse v4.7.0 / EE

The causes seems to be the version of  the 2 nebula components embedded in the eclipse plugin bundle that require an old version of SWT

i managed to install the jasper studio v6.4.0 plugin by manually install the latest version (v1.3.0) of the 2 nebula components referenced in the jasper plugin, and then to remove all the reference to those components in the jasper plugin v6.4.0 bundle

Please build a new version of the plugin with the nebula components to the latest version (or remove them from teh bundle..)

Thanks

I have tried to install through Market Place, drag and drop and pasting the URL as suggested. I still can not get it to install. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

In reply to by Bob Lawson

I checked and the http url for 6.3.1 (last version available) is working fine for me. Just in case give it a try going to the website in Sourceforge and download the "full-site.zip" package. You should be able to install locally adding the archive update site from the installation dialog.

Regards,
Massimo.

I have been using iReport for the past 5 years as my main report development tool for JasperReports. I was quite hesitant on switching to Jaspersoft Studio at first. As the Studio seems to be fairly complete and has matured over the past year I gave it another try, and frankly, I am impressed. All functionality I am familiar with is available in either a similar or better way, the UI is intuitive, the tool runs stable. After just a few days with Jaspersoft Studio I now consider retiring iReport and completely switching. The concept of data adapters, project workspaces and the ability to use it together with my java development environment just works out nicely. Well done!
