Cool Imaging is a digital image processing application. This means that Cool Imaging can perform two main tasks:

1. Transform one or several input images into an output image, through simple operations, like histogram equalization, filtering, etc. In general, Cool Imaging lets the user apply any operation that works on any set of input images to get, as a result, an output image.
2. Retrieve useful information from an input image. This process is known as "image characterizing", and its goal is to, somehow, "summarize" an image in such a way that it can be represented as a set of features, like its histogram, means, standard deviations, etc.

Cool Imaging works with both individual images and packages of images, consisting of hundreds or thousands of them. This way, it can be used for obtaining huge amounts of statistical data to be further processed by other tools or technologies, e.g., machine learning. Cool Imaging is a multiplatform application, and can easily be translated into other languages. Moreover, thanks to the underlying RCP architecture, its functionality can be extended quickly and robustly.
